For
who was Jesus crucified?
Most
people would reply: “For everybody, because we are all sinners and
it’s only through the blood of Jesus that we are saved and can receive
eternal life.” That’s the only right answer to this question.
Yet
there are times we don’t appear to hold on to this believe. I am shocked
at times by the vicious attacks of Christians towards certain people
groups within our society. And I completely understand the reactions from
these groups towards Christians.
I
am thinking particularly about homosexuals and lesbians. These people are
sinners, just like every other sinner. But it seems that they are singled
out as an exception to the rule. Most churches tend to dismiss the subject
of homosexuality. Homosexuals and lesbians would not feel at home in most
churches; they are sniggered at, or they hear a sermon about the terrible
people they are, because of the sins they commit, so that they’d rather
not come back.
Jesus
loves homosexuals and lesbians. He hates the sinful acts of homosexuality,
but He loves the person. Just the same as He loves every other sinner. I
believe many homosexuals and lesbians have a great struggle with their
sexuality, especially if they have grown up in the church. ‘Coming out
of the woodwork’ causes so much fear and anxiety, and the fear of being
judged by family and fellow believers is huge. But the average homosexual/lesbian
who hasn’t grown up in the church also feels that Christians do not
accept them.
From
time to time I have read forums on the Internet and it fills me with deep
pain to read what they think about Christians. They are filled with
bitterness, full of hatred and completely disillusioned towards Christians.
How would you feel if you are always judged on what you do? Of course, sin
is sin; that doesn’t change. Leviticus 18:22 says: Do
not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. God
calls it detestable. That’s why many Christians think ‘Go to hell.’
If God thinks it is detestable, I do too. But in fact, every sinner who
does not repent goes to hell. Homosexual or heterosexual, it makes no
difference to God. Sin is sin!
But…
if it is detestable in God’s eyes, would He have a solution? Better
believe it! We, such tiny feeble people that we are, do not always
understand God. We have no idea why or how a person becomes a homosexual,
whether they are born that way, have become that way, how they have become
bound to it or whatever. But one thing I know: All things are possible
with God. Jesus loves every sinner. No sin was ever too big that it could
not be nailed to the cross.
That’s
why it’s high time for homo-hatred to stop! Repent from you hatred
towards an entire group of people. Love the sinner, but hate the sin!
Every sinner needs to feel welcome in the church. It’s up to us to love
the sinner and to pray for the sinner. It’s up to the Lord to help the
sinner deal with the sin and to become one of Jesus’ disciples.
No sin is too big for Jesus, so why is it for us?
As long as Christians do not repent of their homo-hatred,
homosexuals cannot be delivered from their sins and become followers of
Jesus
